reusable bag GIVEAWAY!

This week I read an article on this IN House Bill that would charge 10 cents per plastic bag.  I'm thinking 10 cents isn't enough but it's way better than FREE and UNLIMITED and WASTEFUL bag usage, and it's about time to start charging, or better yet, ban them all together like SF has done.  To the outcries of 'how will I carry my STUFF?' (probably not from readers of this blog, but I know we all know people who would say that), you do what people did before plastic bags--bring your own.  Hello.  Our local library stopped offering plastic bags over a year ago, people seem to have adapted.  You go into Aldi's, you pay for your bags or bring your own.  You go into Costco?  No free bags there, either.

I just ordered some awesome bags from reuseit, a great online store for all things reusable.   I'm giving away two bags--
This recycled cotton bag that's AWESOME for groceries,

and this bamboo tote bag--great for the library!

If you want a chance to win one of these bags, just enter in the comments section.  I'll close the comments and pick a winner (edit--TWO winners!) next Sunday 2/13 at 7pm.  Good Luck!

ps--be sure y'all give me your emails when you comment (or check back) so that i can get in touch w/ you if you win!

  1. This is a great idea! My friend lives in DC and they do the charging for bags there. It isn't much but it is enough to make people stop and think. If people will cross the street to save one penny on a gallon of gas I see them really getting serious about a 10 cent bag at Wally World! I love this bag and especially since it is made out of recycled materials! Thanks for always inspiring me to be better, Krista!

  2. great point Erin--now that i think of it, Aldi charges 10 cents/bag and that seems to work to get many to bring their own. i didn't know they charged for bags in DC--it seems to be a trend, love it.

  3. I think charging for bags is a great idea. As with anything I imagine many people will come into the change kicking and screaming!
Even though many stores have the option for you to return the bags for recycling, I wonder how many people actually do that?
An interesting repurposing of plastic bags I recently read about is to braid them into rugs.
Love the idea that your reusable bags are made from recycled materials!

  5. I'm always shopping at Aldi's and need more bags. After using what I already have for a couple of years, mine are starting to see some wear.

  6. I even keep the little foldaway ones in my car at all times. I feel better bringing my own bags.

  7. Someone told me that you are supposed to wash your reusable bags (makes sense), so I threw them all in the washer and they came our ruined! So, now I really could use some new ones. I'll be hand washing next time!

  8. I'm a fellow IndyMom, and I think I might know you from somewhere else. I just saw your post and thought I'd stop by and check out your blog. Now I'm curious and looking forward to reading more! I have reusable bags but a couple of them are rather dogged. I am very much in favor of charging for plastic bags (I think Aldi's was quite progressive!). Now I'm off to read your blog and see what other potentially wonderful things you have to say!

  10. I agree they should start charging for the plastic it would make people think about bringing their own and hopefully not contribute more to the
    corporate jackpot.

--I also have seen the repurposing the bags into PLARN=plastic+yarn
